Crossway Baptist Church began in 2001 when 149 charter members gathered at Riverdale High School for the very first Sunday worship service, led by founding pastor Dr. Tony Long. From day one, the vision was straightforward plant a faithful, Bible teaching church in Murfreesboro where people could clearly hear God's Word and grow in authentic Christian community.

In 2002, Crossway merged with Rucker Baptist Church and received 20 acres of land on Highway 231, establishing a permanent home for ministry in the heart of a rapidly growing Murfreesboro. Construction of our current building began in 2005 the same year Pastor Sherman Boyd joined the staff as Minister of Students, beginning a relationship with Crossway that would shape the next two decades.

As the church grew, so did its leadership. In 2013, following Pastor Tony Long's medical retirement due to Ataxia, Pastor Sherman stepped in as interim pastor. In 2014, he was named Lead Pastor, and Crossway transitioned to an elder-led model of shepherding deepening its commitment to genuine pastoral care across every congregation.

Today, Crossway continues to grow as a local Murfreesboro church anchored in faithful teaching, meaningful relationships, and gospel mission the same vision 149 people showed up for in 2001.
